COMMONWEALTH CHAMPION judo star Owen Livsey came to Leigh Judo Club on Sunday delivering a masterclass at the club’s new home at Lowton Community Hub. Livsey is the current Commonwealth Champion in the under-81kg category and is ranked number 1 in the UK and 40 in the world after narrowly missing out on selection for the Rio Olympics. Along with his fellow Team GB sisters, Amy and Becky Livsey fresh from their international success in Budapest Grand Prix and Baku Grand slam. Livsey ran two 90-minute sessions, introducing new warm-up routines, and advanced groundwork and throwing techniques to over 30 junior and senior club members.
Former GB International and head coach Luke Brown said: “Its great to have Owen here providing motivation and new skills. The youngsters really loved the chance to meet a champion and even got the chance to fight with him as well. All the senior players loved the session, enjoyed the technical learning. The day was made even more special with Amy and Becky joining providing support. The female members in particular really looked up to Amy and Becky and felt inspired. It was a great day!”
With the goal of increasing confidence, teaching self defence and having fun, the award winning club has continued to grow since securing a purpose built facility in the heart of Lowton.
