Leigh Judo Club members had a special treat this weekend when Commonwealth Champion David Groom arrived to coach the juniors and seniors on Sunday. GB team member David used to train with Leigh Judo Club Head Coach Luke Brown. David said “Having trained and fought alongside Luke around the world since we were both kids, it was a privilege to visit Leigh Judo Club and see the excellent work he is doing with some very talented youngsters and adults”
David told how the sport had changed his life and what it had given him before teaching techniques and even joining in with the games. Fighting for both the Northwest Team and for the Great Britain Team, David has competed all around the world. David currently fights in the under 90kg category, is on the Great Britain Men’s Squad and holds a BJA 3rd DAN Black belt.
Head Coach Luke Brown said “David’s a great guy and it’s fantastic to have him at the club giving some inspirational high level coaching. The members will really benefit from his knowledge and experience”
Leigh judo club has a history of bringing high level players in to inspire their members having previously had Olympian Sophie Cox visit.
