Leigh has a long history of being a hotbed of judo talent producing many Team GB squad members including the likes of Nigel Donohue 6th Dan current GB Performance Director and Alan Jones 7th Dan former Welsh National coach. Despite this talent, no NGB judo club in leigh that provides quality and experienced coaching has existed in the area for a number of years. A brand new judo club in Leigh club has opened in the North West Area. Born out of necessity and created in the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic games, the judo club in leigh is already proving hugely successful!

Led by Luke Brown, 3rd Dan former cadet and junior international and sports physiotherapist, the club is already achieving success both on and off the mat being nominated for Wigan Borough Club of the Year and won Coach of the Year (Luke Brown). Only open since April 2013, the club reached double membership figures within two weeks and is hitting many of the goals for Silver Club mark standard and growing ever since. Set in the heart of the community with strong school links and judo programmes currently underway the judo club in leigh is already thriving. Its no question that Leigh Judo Club has a bright future ahead of it and with its gym and sports medicine facilities, will be a club you’ll be hearing more of – watch this space.
